The one thing that Pc users can do that Mac users can’t. Shut up about how great their Macs are

I wish I could explain
what chaos yesterday had been. It was a bit of a “Human Traffic” type situation. Like the British movie about club culture. (An absolute must see if you a secret stash of white gloves somewhere…or well if not)
Anyway. Yesterday went something like this. I was one really disappointed puppy when I found out that, because of my own idiocy I didn’t get hold of tickets to go see one of my all time favourite Djs. Global dance brand, Godskitchen and Urban Wave brought Armin van Buuren to SA to come wow the crowds. To make it a double whammy; the tickets were all sold out. (what a surprise…Note hint of sarcasm)All of my ‘chosen family’ (watch the movie) were set. With about 12 hours before the party I set out on the very unlikely quest to find two tickets.
I must admit that I became quite worried when I saw that it seemed that
everybody else had left it last-minute-dot-com too. And the entrepreneurs were laughing all the way to the bank. Tickets were selling for up to 2800 smackaroos…Yes I couldn’t believe it was possible either. Were there really people with that much money and that little sense? (Well I guess it is a situation of supply and demand) I think it must have been fate. With a few hours to spare an angel of a woman happen to find herself in a situation, knowing people that couldn’t go anymore. She organised me not one,…not two, but three tickets. I wanted to drop dead at that exact spot I was that happy.
We proceeded to start the evening with 100% Agave…Enough about my tequila drinking habits though. Point being, we were suited-up and ready to party. The drizzle and the gale force winds did not deter the eager house/dance/rave (whatever you want to call it) enthusiast and they weren’t disappointed. The Bellville Velodro was packed.
**The ZestCulture team found it odd that we were told no cameras were allowed when nearly every single mobile phone on the market now has a camera in it? Seriously?!**
Godskitchen showcased their ‘Boombox Concept’ to South Africa. It is a unique architectural, multimedia, visual and music concept. The structure that stands at 16m wide, 8m high and 6m deep, combines projection technology, hidden lighting and special effects to create this amazing visual show. Adding a whole new dimension to the performance.
Dean Fuel had a good set. Proving that South African DJs can give the international ones a run for their money. But anticipation was building and all the crowd wanted was the man they all came for…they all started calling Armin’s name.
The second Armin stepped on stage and started his set the crowd went ballistic. I was blown away by the Boombox structure. Talk about sensory overload! The crowd lapped up every element of his performance. Wow. He put most other live performances of its kind in South Africa to shame. Definitely an evening to remember!
Here is the preview to Human Traffic. The Milky Bars are on me!
Very cool Video. This took 3 months of planning, 4 days of shooting and 6000 + Post-it notes
Very cool.
Seeing as I am due for an upgrade on my mobile phone contract later this year, I feel I had to write about the new eagerly awaited Apple iPhone. I have heard from a couple of people that the iPhone left much to be desired as a business orientated PDA. Although I still salivate thinking about the Kyocera EOS. For the time being I will just have to let those be dreams.
I was looking at different phones available on the market now. My main motivation for giving the iPhone a skip, was all the bits Apple forgot to add to the OS for the iPhone, but we will get to that a little later.
Apple announced the next iPhone. they’re dubbing it the iPhone 3GS. So what does the S stand for? Speed, says Apple.
At face value it looks a lot like the current iPhone 3G, but Apple says it will be able to perform many of its functions “up to” two times faster.
On board is a new 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and improved low-light sensitivity. It now has a special macro mode, along with automatic white balance and exposure. Beyond that, it’s able to capture video at 640 x 480 at 30 frames per second. If you want to edit that video, there’s a new video editing app included, letting you trim clips using multi-touch control.
Another welcomed improvement is extended battery life. Apple says the iPhone 3GS will last nine hours using WiFi, compared to six hours before, will play video for 10 hours, up from seven hours with it’s predecessor . You’ll get 30 hours of audio playback is opposed to 24, and 12 hours of talk time on 2G instead of 10 hours, but 3G talk time is the same at five hours.
iPhones will be offered in three different flavors: a 32GB model, a 16GB, and an old 3G 8GB iPhone (with the new OS) will still be available. Now what the cost of these will be in SA is still a mystery. The new models will be for sale starting June 19 in the States. The guys at Cellucity tell me that South Africa should get the phones a month after they go on sale in the USA but we know how things can go with Apple. So I think it would be safe to say we will have them closer to the end of the year.
Remember the pesky problems with the OS I mentioned. Well the iPhone OS 3.0 finally introduces lots of features (that should have been in the software from the beginning). Including cut/copy/paste, a landscape keyboard that works in e-mail, notes and messages. There is also a multimedia messaging service (MMS).
Another innovation is Spotlight. Adding the ability to search across the iPhone, including inside apps and email. Another favorite feature of the jailbreakers is tethering, finally making its way to the iPhone. Letting you hook up your iPhone’s mobile broadband connection to a PC.
There is also a newly announced “find my iPhone” capability, but it will only be offered to Apple’s $99/year “Mobile
Me” customers. It’s a great idea, though, with a web browser showing you where your lost phone is on a map. You can get your phone to make a noise, even if you left it in silent mode. If you can’t find it after all that helpful technology, you can nuke all the data on that phone with a “remote wipe” command. Lucky enough to find it? Then you can restore it from a backup in iTunes.
Hopefully the ZestCulture team will be sporting iPhone 3GS soon & we are all hoping it is all it’s cracked up to be. Fingers crossed!
I was surfing the internet when I came across a very nifty invention. I first thought that who needs an inflatable hanger , if you go travelling the Hotel should have? Then thought of the times I had to travel needing hangers for my work shirts.
Although they are flat, they aren’t the easiest of things to transport and Hotels never have enough provided. Even at home, if you are not usin
g some hangers, they tend to take up a lot of space. Being able to deflate them you can store them in a much more space-efficient manner.
Another plus of the inflatable hangers is that they don’t make bulges on the shoulders of clothing like regular hangers (Unless you have the proper blazer hanger, which take up even more space). If you would like to order some of these you can have a look at 95% Danish. They retail for approximately R90 for 2
When I was living in the east you would see it everywhere. No argument was too big for ‘it’ to end it. Children & grownups alike would play it. If you didn’t see it daily, something was wrong. What am I talking about? Why Rock, Paper, Scissors.
On Thursday night Neighbourhood launched their first ever Rock, Paper, Scissors Grand National Tournament with the help of Red Bull and Grolsch. These guys put a lot of effort into this event. All was organised by managers Adam Klein, Joel Kline and Jonathan Cline. Paul Snodgrass was
there to MC the evening & blew the audience away with his knowledge of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Now this game, although it might seem to be a game kids usually play, can be compared to the likes of chess. For this game is all about strategy. Knowing your opponent and reading what their next choice will be, is what it’s about. Strategy, strategy, strategy. As the evening progressed it seemed that the gutsy blond named Ricci had the strategy down on this game & was cleaning house.
In the final, the force that is Ricci clashed with likes of RPS machine, Gotti. After an adrenalin fueled match, Gotti walked away with the title of Grand National Champion and of course the R1000 cash prize. Ricci didn’t walk away empty handed though. She won a complimentory meal to spend at Neighbourhood. As you know, according to “The Tarts in Tiaras,” they have the Best Chilli Poppers in Cape Town
The entire event was recorded & will soon be out on Youtube for you guys to check out.
Google inc has revealed that there are a couple of surprizes install for google users. One to better coordinate internet searches on mobile phones and computers and another that to produce automated research reports.
Google has also showed a new feature that should already be available. The spider bots that search all the sites will be narrowing down search results by searching results that have been updated in the last 24 hours or the last week. By doing this searches will be more relevant to users and give them current information.
This has been brought about by sites like twitter & other micro blogging sites.
Might cause a problem for people and companies that thought they could just have a website & people would find them on Google.

Shinoda plasma corp in Japan has recently unveiled a prototype flexible plasma screen at CEATEC in Japan. Plasma screens have definitely not been the talk of the town lately with new and more cost effective LCD’s floading the market. There are a couple features this screen has that makes this specific plasma an interesting find.
This plasma screen is 2m tall x3m high and only 1mm thick. The one pictured above is 1m tall by 3m wide & actually consists of three 1mx1m panel to make up the size. The resolution on the screen isn’t great at a low 960 x 360.
I personally don’t like black lines in my screen but something this size could be great. I think my home computer screen can do with an upgrade. Unfortunately as with most of the things I like such as the Kyocera Flexible OLED Mobiel Phone, this is only a prototype & will find it’s way into products along the line.
Even thought the actual screen is 1mm thick and only weighs a couple of kilograms it is not a very leight weight equipment as a complete package. It is very cost efficient using about half the electricity to comparably sized plasma screens
These screens will make it’s way into products later this year, but with a hefty price tag in the range of R500 000. One can only wish

I can’t remember when last I wore a watch? I don’t think I’ve had one for about 10 years. I know it’s terrible, especially with watches being more of a fashion statement then a practical time piece. Something that I have always wanted is a pocket watch & by chance I came across this little beauty. Travel Alarm 1884 Limited Edition by Victorinox
![]()
The Travel Alarm is celebrates to 125th anniversary of the Swiss Army Knife. Now we all know the quality of Victorinox so I won’t go into that. The just is, it’s a top notch piece. It features the same folding system as the famed Swiss Army Knife so you know it won’t break any time soon. The side-panels even include a toothpick and tweezers found in all Victorinox pocket knives!
It will only be available later this year & will set you back about R5000 but I think it’s worth the wait.
