The King of Pop, Forever!

Michael Jackson Has been a name that I grew up with & was synonymous with his famous “Moonwalk”. Now I know he has been in the media for years for all the weird things he was accused of doing. That said & done, there is no doubt that this man made amazing music & could he dance.

We shall surely miss him & below enjoy Thriller from the worlds Best Selling Album “Thriller”

Bon Voyage!!!

World Cup – 1 Year and Counting!

2010 soccer stadiaYes, in case you live under a rock, today it is exactly one year, that’s 365 days to kick off of the FIFA 2010 World Cup South Africa!

If you’re walking or driving around Cape Town today, you’ll notice a certain feverishness in the air. An Arial advert together with a Cape Town Topless Tours bus driving around, with revellers blowing vuvuzela’s (how do you DO that?!), waving streamers and generally celebrating a milestone in SA history.

It is said that the President, our Premier and the Fifa President are celebrating in style at the Greenpoint Stadium today. I wonder how that party will go?brazilian-soccer-fan

In exactly a year, South Africa will play host to one of the biggest sporting events in the world.

Soccer is immensely popular in South Africa, more so even than rugby, and the imminent arrival of thousands of soccer fans is only heightening that excitement. More than 630 000 of three million have already been sold, just a hint of the immense excitement building for next year’s games.

Restaurants, clubs, guesthouses, lodges and spas, all businesses are feverishly preparing themselves to handle the influx of tourists; people are renting out their homes close to the stadia to foreign fans eager to be close to the action.

Cape Town alone will play host to more than 150 000 sports fans, travelling from far and wide. So far over 30 000 Germans alone are coming. Sheesh. That’s a LOT of people. Where will we put them? They’ll be eating out, going out,

partying and celebrating!

Apple iPhone 3GS

iphone_3gsSeeing as I am due for an upgrade on my mobile phone contract later this year, I feel I had to write about the new eagerly awaited Apple iPhone. I have heard from a couple of people that the iPhone left much to be desired as a business orientated PDA. Although I still salivate thinking about the Kyocera EOS. For the time being I will just have to let those be dreams.

I was looking at different phones available on the market now. My main motivation for giving the iPhone a skip, was all the bits Apple forgot to add to the OS for the iPhone, but we will get to that a little later.

Apple announced the next iPhone. they’re dubbing it the iPhone 3GS. So what does the S stand for? Speed, says Apple.iphone 3gs At face value it looks a lot like the current iPhone 3G, but Apple says it will be able to perform many of its functions “up to” two times faster.

On board is a new 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and improved low-light sensitivity. It now has a special macro mode, along with automatic white balance and exposure. Beyond that, it’s able to capture video at 640 x 480 at 30 frames per second. If you want to edit that video, there’s a new video editing app included, letting you trim clips using multi-touch control.

Another welcomed improvement is extended battery life. Apple says the iPhone 3GS will last nine hours using WiFi, compared to six hours before, will play video for 10 hours, up from seven hours with it’s predecessor . You’ll get 30 hours of audio playback is opposed to 24, and 12 hours of talk time on 2G instead of 10 hours, but 3G talk time is the same at five hours.

iphone_3gsiPhones will be offered in three different flavors: a 32GB model, a 16GB, and an old 3G 8GB iPhone (with the new OS) will still be available. Now what the cost of these will be in SA is still a mystery. The new models will be for sale starting June 19 in the States. The guys at Cellucity tell me that South Africa should get the phones a month after they go on sale in the USA but we know how things can go with Apple. So I think it would be safe to say we will have them closer to the end of the year.

Remember the pesky problems with the OS I mentioned. Well the iPhone OS 3.0 finally introduces lots of features (that should have been in the software from the beginning). Including cut/copy/paste, a landscape keyboard that works in e-mail, notes and messages. There is also a multimedia messaging service (MMS).

Another innovation is Spotlight. Adding the ability to search across the iPhone, including inside apps and email. Another favorite feature of the jailbreakers is tethering, finally making its way to the iPhone. Letting you hook up your iPhone’s mobile broadband connection to a PC.

There is also a newly announced “find my iPhone” capability, but it will only be offered to Apple’s $99/year “Mobileiphone 3gsMe” customers. It’s a great idea, though, with a web browser showing you where your lost phone is on a map. You can get your phone to make a noise, even if you left it in silent mode. If you can’t find it after all that helpful technology, you can nuke all the data on that phone with a “remote wipe” command. Lucky enough to find it? Then you can restore it from a backup in iTunes.

Hopefully the ZestCulture team will be sporting iPhone 3GS soon & we are all hoping it is all it’s cracked up to be. Fingers crossed!

Reporting Sexpo

Last year the Sexpo saw 35, 000 inquisitive guests walk through their doors. This year organisers were preparing to welcome 45, 000 visitors. On Sexpo Main StageSaturday neither the weather nor any protesters could dampen the mood or mischievous twinkle in anyone’s eye. Let the adventure begin…

Well…yes that was my first thought as I walked in and I was faced with Mount Peni. The world largest inflatable penis. The guys from Gay Travel just laughed at me.

After spending an hour doing some hardcore journalism (*giggle* I was buzzed a few times by some of the stalls sales representatives with various funny looking thingees) we decided to go chill in VIP and take in a show. (on main stage)
nurse and copZestCulture was very excited to speak to UK Pole Dancing Champion, Tracey Simmonds after seeing her perform/’wow us’ on main stage. Seems the original idea for her coming to South Africa was to act as judge for the Sexpo’s South African version of the Competition. Tracy has been teaching the techniques of pole dancing fulltime since she has won her title. And her visit to South Africa gave her the opportunity to launch her instructional DVD’s (by the looks of it, this is actually an exercise regime that this ZestCulture journalist wouldn’t mind following)

The Bell of the Ball on the day was definitely South Africa’s first ever Miss Nude SA, Bella Anderson. The twenty one year old has an enthusiasm for her work that is only matched by her zest for life.tracey_simmonds_evolution

No blushing brides in sight, but I must admit I had a blushing editor on my hands at some point. But I don’t think he is willing to let me elaborate. All and all a very interesting and informative day. Went home with lots of goodies – *big naughty grin.*

‘EQ’ means having better sex

I had real interesting little read this morning. Seems the girls do in fact have one up on the boys. Pardon the bad couple kissingpun. The research in question seems to prove that Emotional intelligence helps in many aspects of adult life, as well as allows you to spell sex with a big letter ‘Oh.’ The findings have been published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.

According to a study they have done with 2,035 female twins, it seems to suggest that there is a noteworthy link between the Emotional Intelligence of the individuals that completed the questionnaires and the frequency of orgasms they experienced during a little bit of funky DIY and/or intercourse. The eager ladies were asked questions, about their sexual behaviour and performance that were also designed to test their emotional intelligence.

Men have it easy. You don’t have to hassle with all the painful beauty stuff like high heels, GHD’s and waxing (well some of the sexy metrosexuals feel our pain in this one) Well…and then there is always the giving birth argument. Which even though an old one, it still remains quite valid.

All these hardships have cultivated a more emotionally mature sex. Men must just come to terms with the fact that we are the superior sex and quit trying to prove differently. Simone de Beauvoir eat your heart out… All in good fun ladies and gentlemen.

Read more about the study on BBC.

Swine Flu Virus May Be Weak

Swine flu has been on everybody’s lips the past couple of days and let’s hope that’s as close as it gets.

Preliminary evidence suggests that swine flu may not be as severe as originally thought but scientists have also warned not to draw conclusions from preliminary research. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory computer scientists Jonathan Allen and Tom Slezak didn’t find similarities between swine flu and historical strains that spread widely, with catastrophic effect.

h1n1 flu

Their findings are based on just one complete sample and several fragmentary samples of swine flu, but fit with two other early analyses.

That all said and done, I’m not quite sure what to make of this whole scenario. All I would suggest is to follow good hygiene & make sure you wash your hands regularly. We should be extra careful in South Africa as we are going into winter & people are more likely to get flu. If you have flu symptoms accompanied by a headache, nausea & vomiting go see you doctor immediately.
