Michael Jackson Has been a name that I grew up with & was synonymous with his famous “Moonwalk”. Now I know he has been in the media for years for all the weird things he was accused of doing. That said & done, there is no doubt that this man made amazing music & could he dance.
We shall surely miss him & below enjoy Thriller from the worlds Best Selling Album “Thriller”
So the time has come to announce the winner of the the Swellengrebel Weekend Getaway competition. The winner will get full paid weekend for 2 in the heart of the overberg at the Swellengrebel Hotel. The lucky readers will be be spending the time in the hotel’s Honeymoon suite. This prize also includes breakfast with all the trimmings. During their stay in Swellendam there are many activities to keep them busy out and about such as Two feathers horse trails and the Continent of Sulina
Enough about all that. Now who is the lucky person……?
We would like to congratulate Esti Strydom for winning the weekend getaway & hope she enjoys her stay at the Swellengrebel Hotel.
The DFA ( Documantary Filmmakers Association) is currently holding a “Short documentary Competition”
They are looking for candidates to make a 3 minute mini-documentary about their enviroment. Although it hasn’t been announced, there are prizes in the pipeline. The 8 best films will be selected & showed at the Waterfront Nu Metro as part of the Encounters documentary festival. The documentaries will be screened before the main features. The 11th Encounters South African International Documentary Festival will be held in Cape Town from 2 – 19 July.
Below is the brief that has been given. So if you have an idea that will wow, why not send in your documentary
“My Town”
…The town we come from/live in shapes who we are. We occupy its space, it occupies us…
For this competition, filmmakers, aspirant filmmakers, artists and students are invited to make a short 3 minute documentary titled “My Town”. Interpret this brief any which way you like. Revisit your birthplace, explore your suburb or township. Tell ‘your’ story!
Films will be produced at own expense. The films produced remain the property of the filmmakers. The Documentary Filmmakers Association will endeavor to negotiate broadcasting and festival screenings with the filmmakers’ permission. Selected filmmakers will benefit from on-screen credits and general media exposure through the project. All filmmakers who enter a film will receive a year’s free membership to the DFA (July 2009 – June 2010).
Delivery and Deadline:
Deliver 3 x copies of your film on DVD (DVD’s must be high quality and viewable on home dvd players)
Films must be delivered by 14:00 on 12 June 2009
Deliver to:
7 Glynnville Terrace
Gardens, Cape Town, 8001
For Attention: THERESA MEYER

So there you go. 3 minutes isn’t that long. I know there are many interesting places around South Africa with lots of history & stories to tell. If you have a great idea, but don’t feel you have the technical knowhow to shoot the documentary, try contacting some of the students at AFDA, City Varsity or CPUT to help out. If you know you believe you have the expertise and you are looking for the right equipment, why not try one of the following: Visual Impact Magus, Visual Impact Sales or HDHUB
Hey everybody, just a remider that the SKYY 90 prize is still up for grabs. Then don’t forget that next week we will be giving away a weekend getaway for 2 valued at R7000.
Saying that women are indecisive, is a SERIOUS understatement. Their wants and needs seem to change as often as most of the fashion in high street boutiques. And go figure…it drives guys crazy. Then there is the silver tongued guy that always seem to know the sweet nothings to whisper in order to have the most beautiful girl in the room on his arm…and that drives you guys crazy. (Actually guys sound a bit indecisive too, come to think of it)
I just really don’t get the fact that most guys seem so utterly clueless. Yes we have looked at the whole EQ issue. And maybe the argument has some value here. But guys don’t realise how incredibly easy it actually is. If you only knew one little, but monumentally important secret…
**I must admit we do sometimes enjoy you having no idea whatsoever where you stand. Aaaah the power in fear. Ps we can smell fear like we can smell a black American Express from a Mall away. Trust me on this one**
Come closer to the screen. I am only going to say this once and not too loudly either. Its like the fine print. We don’t want the word to get out.
Anyway the big SECRET you have been waiting for. All we want is…
the Grand Gesture. Let me give you an example. I have a friend that used to have an apartment overlooking Cavendish Square. One afternoon her boyfriend at the time, gave a call on her mobile and asked her if she could see anything different out her window. She shrieked with delight when she saw a banner hung from the Cavendish parking lot, telling her and the whole world that ‘he’ loved ‘her.’ Guess who got an amazing thank you in all different types of de-lick-table ways that night.
I know this sounds a bit extreme but it is an effective example none the less. I am not suggesting you surprise her with the cliché flowers and chocolates around every corner. Yet it would be incredibly sexy for you to show up at her work or apartment with her favourite flowers for no reason at all. I am simply suggesting that you do something amazing once. Something that will have her smitten with you. Then as maintenance, start paying attention to the gestures that women observe and respond too and then put them into practice (as in opening a car door. Whatever is ‘her’ thing) Number 1: it shows her that she is a priority to you and number 2: when she moans in front of her friends about you, she will be swiftly told off and reminder that you have proved to be “such an amazing boyfriend.” Well she was the one that couldn’t stop bragging about you. Serves her right then.
Now go forth and be amazing little beavers while I ponder the more important things in life to Origin or not to Origin.
