Hummer H3 Hybrid
Although there are quite a lot of other cars on the market that I would like to own or at the very least, take for uhm a
little drive around the block or up & down De Waal drive, so to speak. I know I am not the only one who has, even if it was only for a short while, wanted to take the new Hummer H3 for a spin. It seems to be the ultimate adventure car, whether it is, is a discussion for another day.
The only problem I have with this specific car is that it is one of those stereotypical American cars. It is thirstier than a Comrades athlete. The fuel consumption on these babies wouldn’t be considered green & can get quite expensive once you want to hit the open road. Especially with fuel prices heading to the all time high they hit in South Africa last year.
But I was quite amazed when I came across a new version of the Hummer H3. A plug-in, extended-range Hummer powered by Raser’s E-REV power train engine. This modified Hummer is more fuel efficient that a Toyota Prius. Now for the big shocker, it gets an amazing 43 Km/liter, give or take.
Although it is still in the test stages & the battery doesn’t last long ( approx 64Km) before the normal fuel consumption kicks in. This is definitely a step in the right direction for greener transport. If these guys could get this Hummer to have such low fuel consumption, imagine what they can do for other smaller cars…
