Kyocera Flexible OLED Mobile Phone
When I heard that a flexible LCD/OLED screen had been developed I had memories come to mind from my childhood of Star Trek & the likes of their com units. I was just waiting to see when this technology would finally make it to the mobile phone market.
Kyocera has recently come up with the phone I have been waiting to
see, the Kyocera EOS. Susan McKinney designer of the Kyocera EOS surely had the right idea when she was developing the concept for this one. It starts out looking pretty much like a large wallet or purse. When you open it, it becomes a widescreen type clamshell phone with a QWERTY keyboard. It has a polymer skin surrounding a flexible low-energy OLED display. This being not quite that far from current phones on the market but with one big difference. The phone folds open again to reveal a widescreen phone.
The Kyocera EOS also has another nifty function, it gets electricity from onboard kinetic generators. The more the phone moves the more battery power you have. This will be very convenient if you run out of power somewhere away from your charger or a power socket. I do hope that this is not the only way to charge the phone as it might become a little frustrating if you have to keep shaking your phone to give it power. Coupled with a regular phone charger & walking around with the phone should make charging intervals very large.

Unfortunately this phone is only a concept at the moment & would most probably carry a heavy price tag. That said I can’t wait for this technology to be developed further & reach the day where we will be able to actually get something similar to this in South Africa.
I’m sure we would be able to use a couple of these for the ZestCulture team. Now all we have to do is wait & see…
